TITAN in Nice: A Week at the EOSC Winter School

Last week (27-29 January), the TITAN project was in Nice, France, for the third EOSC Winter School. Represented by the project coordinator, the University of Murcia, TITAN joined a gathering of experts to help map out the future of the EOSC Federation.

The event was a chance to dive deep into how Europe will share research data in the coming years. For the TITAN team, the most important discussions revolved around how to make this federation actually work, without compromising on security.

Why this matters for TITAN

The Winter School focused on the practical side of the EOSC Federation. Three areas were key for the project:

  • Federating Capabilities: TITAN is built for secure collaboration. As different “nodes” across Europe link up, TITAN aims to ensure privacy is built into those connections from day one.
  • Interoperability: This is about making sure different systems can talk to each other. TITAN is aligning its security tools with European standards so they work for everyone, everywhere.
  • Metadata Quality: You can’t use data if you can’t find it. Clear, high-quality labels help researchers find what they need while keeping the sensitive details hidden.

Making Connections

It wasn’t all technical sessions, though. The Stakeholder Brokerage Event was a great opportunity to meet the “first wave” of EOSC Nodes. The University of Murcia team spent time networking and looking for future partners who share the goal of making data both open and secure.

By being part of these early conversations, TITAN aims to make sure that as the EOSC Federation grows, the tools for protecting sensitive data are built right into the foundation.
