Funded by the European Commission, TITAN (Trusted envIronments for confidenTiAl computiNg and secure data sharing) it’s a 36-month project that will deliver an open-source software platform focused on enabling secure sensitive data sharing, and demonstrate them in the EOSC ecosystem.
CanaryBit, a key partner of the TITAN project, specialises in comprehensive data protection for secure AI analytics and confidential data sharing. We spoke with Pegah Nikbakht Bideh, R&D Software Security Engineer at CanaryBit, who shared her expert perspective on the project’s progress and how it will revolutionize secure data sharing.

What motivated your organization to become a partner in the TITAN-EOSC project?
We joined TITAN-EOSC to help build a trustworthy data-sharing infrastructure aligned with our mission of securing digital collaboration. The project offers a strong use case for advancing confidential computing technologies in real-world environments.
Can you briefly describe your organization’s main role and key responsibilities within the TITAN-EOSC project?
CanaryBit leads the design and implementation of an orchestration tool to enable setting up confidential environments. We also focus on enabling trusted execution environments in GPUs and secure workflows across the platform.
Given CanaryBit’s focus on evolving cloud security and confidential data sharing, what specific security and privacy challenges do you anticipate in developing a secure data-sharing platform like TITAN-EOSC, and how is CanaryBit addressing these through your technological contributions to the project?
Challenges include ensuring end-to-end data confidentiality, enforcing fine-grained access control, and maintaining trust across distributed environments. CanaryBit addresses these using trusted execution environments and cryptographic policy enforcement mechanisms.
With CanaryBit’s knowledge in cryptography, hardware security, and PETs, what are some of the key technical considerations and methodologies you are employing to ensure the confidentiality and integrity of sensitive data shared through the TITAN platform?
We use trusted execution environments (TEEs), remote attestation, and secure orchestration to ensure data remains encrypted and isolated during processing. Our approach combines hardware-enabled security with modern privacy-enhancing techniques.
