Verona, Italy, March 3rd and 4th, 2026 – The TITAN project team has wrapped up a high-energy, two-day Consortium Meeting in Verona, marking a significant step forward in making Europe’s sensitive data more secure and accessible. Hosted by the Veneto Region at the Verona Chamber of Commerce on March 3rd and 4th, 2026, the meeting brought all project partners together to advance the secure data-sharing frameworks designed to protect the next generation of European research.
The focus in Verona was clear: move TITAN from theory into the real world. The team spent the sessions refining and testing two core technologies: Trusted Execution Environments (TEEs) and Federated Learning. In simple terms, these tools allow scientists to analyse sensitive information, such as medical records or proprietary business data, without ever actually “seeing” or moving the raw files. Think of it like getting the answers you need from a document without ever having to open the file.
Bridging Open Science and Total Privacy
The meeting main goal was to ensure these security tools integrate seamlessly with the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC). The mission is to prove that “open science” doesn’t have to mean “exposed data without control.” TITAN aims to make scientific findings transparent and accessible while keeping the underlying private data completely ironclad.
From High-Tech to the Vineyard
To see how these abstract concepts apply to local industry, the group concluded the week at Cantina Valpolicella Negrar. There, they explored how TITAN’s secure data-sharing platform can help winemakers predict pest risks and shifting weather patterns.
With TITAN’s results, competing vineyards can pool their environmental data to improve crop yields without the risk of leaking sensitive business secrets to one another. It’s a win-win for local agriculture: collaborative intelligence with individual privacy.
“The progress we’ve made in Verona sets the stage for a decisive year,” said the project coordinator, Antonio Skarmeta. “We are officially moving out of the planning phase and into real-world pilots across healthcare and agriculture.” |
